The City of Temple Terrace has received $31,822.61 in opioid‑related settlement funds, the city attorney reported to council. The payments are part of multi‑year national and state settlements tied to distributors and manufacturers of opioid medications.
The attorney briefed council that the state of Florida will receive multiyear payments from national settlements and that regional and local governments will receive portions of those funds. The settlement distributions to jurisdictions are restricted: cities and counties are to use the money for prevention, education and treatment-related activities tied to the opioid epidemic rather than depositing proceeds into the general fund.
The attorney said the state has also negotiated naloxone (opioid-reversal drug) distributions from certain settlement components; municipal allocations will arrive as annual installments over many years. City staff are evaluating options for how to channel the funds regionally and historically have sought nonprofit partners and regional collaborators to implement programs aligned with the settlement terms.
Council received the report and asked staff to identify local program partners and potential uses consistent with settlement restrictions.
