Temple Terrace council approves $173,467 library carpeting; also signs off on Fire Station 1 mural

The Temple Terrace City Council voted unanimously to award a contract for new carpeting at the Temple Terrace Library and separately approved a mural design for Fire Station 1.
Karl Langfield, the city’s leisure services director, told council the lowest-cost vendor recommended through a Florida Department of Management Services contract was Shaw Integrated and Turf Solutions and that the total cost for removal and replacement of approximately 20,000 square feet of library carpet is $173,467.48. Langfield said the price exceeded the original flooring budget because it must cover the specialized, labor-intensive work of lifting and moving heavy library stacks without removing books from shelves; the supplier recommended has library‑specific equipment to lift shelving as intact units.
Langfield said the work will require approximately seven days, during which the library will be closed to the public; staff will use the closure for administrative tasks and to notify patrons of alternate branches. The city has budgeted funds for library projects this fiscal year but will postpone planned bathroom renovations so carpeting can proceed this year.
Council adopted the carpet award by unanimous vote. The resolution authorizes the city to use the Florida Department of Management Services contract and to proceed with Shaw Integrated and Turf Solutions for the carpeting project.
In the city manager’s report, council also approved a mural for Fire Station 1 by artist Ashley Cason and authorized staff to finalize a contract and schedule work. That motion carried without opposition.
Council members asked for firm bathroom renovation bids for the next budget cycle and confirmed the carpeting vendor had inspected underlayment and did not anticipate cost overruns.
