Commissioners said the action was taken after a period in which the county relied on part-time dispatchers working additional hours and a temporary transfer of a deputy to support dispatch operations.
County leadership praised the work done by part-time dispatchers and deputies who covered shifts during a staffing shortage. Sheriff Chris Elliott reported that several temporary and transferred staff were filling shifts and that the department was “just at the threshold of being fully staffed.” He noted training of new hires remains a critical next step before returning temporary staff to their home assignments.
The board said the pay decision came after staff and commissioners discussed the department’s needs in public session so the community would hear about the staffing situation. County staff will process payroll updates following the approved increase.
