Casper councilors propose interim topics for state lawmakers, including massage therapy oversight and tax study

"It's a group of therapists. It's kind of a professional oversight committee or group," Michael said.

Councilor Pat raised property tax and broader revenue questions and asked whether Casper should coordinate with WAM on alternative revenue measures so municipalities are prepared if state changes proceed. "Would it be wise to put some sort of interim topic in, as a collective of WAM, on other revenue generating ideas that the state might have," Pat said.
Kirk (staff member) said an interim study on taxation appears likely and that WAM will be at the table for those conversations. "Good news is it does sound like there will be an interim study as it relates to taxation overall," Kirk said. He added staff could also run with a council-requested item.
Other suggested topics included timber policy, housing-related issues the council asked staff to revisit from a prior interim, and mental-health initiatives to address growing local budget impacts. Council members asked staff to gather suggestions and submit them quickly; staff said a submission was needed this week and referenced a near-term deadline in late-month communications. "I've gotta get it this week to, through the web or some legislators," a staff member said.
No formal motion or vote was recorded on which topics to submit. Council members asked colleagues to email additional suggestions to staff for compilation.
Looking ahead: staff will collect council ideas and prepare interim topic submission(s) to WAM and legislators before the stated near-term deadline.
