Conservation Commission approves up to $250 from fund 53 for kiosk materials

The Merrimack Conservation Commission authorized up to $250 from Fund 53 to purchase materials for rebuilding a kiosk on conservation property.

The item was submitted by Commissioner Tom Martinson, who described a short inspection of the kiosk hardware and the likelihood that some parts (padlock, hinges, plexiglass) would need replacement. Commissioners discussed donated materials and whether a combination padlock or keyed lock was appropriate; the commission agreed a combination padlock is required where shared access is needed.

A motion to allocate an amount not to exceed $250 from Fund 53 for the Sklar kiosk was moved by Jen (Commissioner) and seconded by Andrew (Commissioner). The commission voted in favor, 6-0. Commissioners noted that actual purchases should follow the town's purchasing policy and that an itemized quote will be required by purchasing before funds are released.

Tom Martinson said much of the physical construction will have to wait until spring because the kiosk site is inaccessible due to winter conditions. Commissioner Andrew offered to assist with construction when weather permits.

Commissioners also discussed storage of spare kiosks and materials and confirmed that donated hardware could be used if compatible. The packet for the meeting included a materials list that initially referenced $235; commissioners voted on a motion authorizing up to $250 and recorded that amount in the vote.

Community Development will receive the detailed purchase information and follow the town's procurement process before any funds are disbursed.
