County staff asked the Clay County Board of Commissioners to approve a letter of support for the Moorhead Cultural Mall project; the project sponsor was testifying before the state Capital Investment Committee and could not attend.
Steve (county staff) briefed the board: the organization that proposed reuse of downtown property has shifted its preferred site for a cultural mall and sought local endorsement. Staff did not have an updated cost estimate or the precise funding request before the Minnesota Senate Capital Investment Committee; the presenter said he had tried to obtain that information but had not received it in time for the meeting.
Commissioners reiterated local support for the group’s prior events and downtown partnerships. One commissioner noted the project team had presented a "global market" event and attracted community interest. A motion to approve a letter of support passed by voice vote; the board recorded a motion, a second and an "aye." No project appropriation or county financial commitment was included in the motion.
The staff presenter noted the project is also seeking heritage funds in a Senate file (noted during discussion) and that downtown partners have provided letters of support as well.
