City staff briefed the Community Media Committee on Monona Go usage and costs Feb. 13 and committee members discussed outreach options to increase downloads and viewing.
Staff reported cumulative download counts of about 704 on Apple devices and 64 on Android; Fire TV and Roku usage was minimal. Staff said the subscription for Monona Go was paid for the current year and the committee agreed to reassess value and usage during the next budget cycle. There was no motion to cancel or change the service at this meeting.
Committee members suggested low-cost ways to boost adoption: place QR codes on school and event programs (football programs, concert programs), include the app at the top of the newsletter periodically, add QR signage at events and use digital signage around the city. Staff described existing outreach efforts, including QR codes on city digital signage and periodic newsletter mentions.
Staff noted that usage measured through the app is limited to video views and that YouTube continues to draw larger view counts for high-school events and concerts. Committee members discussed whether additional advertising or periodic placement in the newsletter could increase adoption and agreed to monitor analytics and revisit the question during the budget review window.
No formal committee action was taken; staff will continue to monitor app analytics and consider targeted outreach.
