Students describe Goshen High computer-science pathway and career focus

GOSHEN, N.Y. — Students presented the Goshen High School computer-science pathway at the Sept. 15 board meeting, describing a multi-year sequence that starts with a freshman-level discovery course and advances to Python, Java and cybersecurity offerings.
A student speaker described courses offered through external partners (course credits through Siena College were mentioned) and said the pathway supports a cohort experience where students remain with the same classmates across several years. The pathway offers flexibility for students balancing Advanced Placement courses and internships, and the student speakers described how the program helped them choose majors in data science and cybersecurity.
Presenters also noted that the pathway has produced competitive teams and strong academic results; the student presenter said three of the top six performers in a recent competition were from the program. Administrators noted that the pathway’s sixth cohort completed its first full run in 2024.
No personnel or budget changes for the computer-science pathway were proposed at the meeting; the session was informational and highlighted student perspective on instruction and career pathways.
