Joliet City Council approves multiple contracts, budget amendment and development plans; water meter program cleared

The Joliet City Council on Feb. 18 approved a series of contracts, liquor licenses, budget changes and development ordinances and authorized a $2,196,860 small water meter replacement program.

The actions were taken during the regular council meeting at Council Chambers and included a budget amendment of $602,667 to pay for phase 1 engineering for the U.S. Route 6/Hobolt Road to I-55 interchange study and the adoption of multiple ordinances and resolutions related to zoning, right-of-way agreements and municipal contracts. Council members voted to adopt the preliminarily and final planned unit development documents for Hope Manor Village Joliet after a roll call that recorded one “no” vote and a recusal noted in the transcript.

Why this matters: The meter replacement program and the Route 6 engineering study represent multi-hundred-thousand- and multi-million-dollar public works investments that will affect the city’s water system operations and future transportation planning. Approvals of planned developments, special use permits and variations affect land use and local services in the areas involved.
