The La Porte Historic Preservation Commission agreed Feb. 19 to hold a windows workshop on Saturday, June 14, and discussed a separate class to help homeowners prepare for nearby infrastructure projects, including work on Indiana Avenue.
Commissioners said the windows topic typically draws strong attendance. Krista Hurley King proposed partnering with Preserve Historic La Porte (PHLP) and its media manager to promote the events; PHLP will handle Eventbrite registration and set any fees. "If you guys pick first, you get it," a PHLP representative said when scheduling conflicts were discussed.
Commissioners flagged lead-pipe and water-line work as timely reasons to hold a homeowner-prep class before May. Participants suggested including guidance on documenting architectural features (photographing details) and coordinating timing with water shutoffs so homeowners can combine contractor work with municipal infrastructure outages. David Heinold, city planner, and other commissioners said they would reach out to the city or project managers for schedule details to make the session more useful.
The commission also discussed using the Exchange building for the homeowner workshop and agreed to ask Todd (city staff) to provide scheduling or project-timeline information.
No fee amount was finalized during the meeting; commissioners asked PHLP to set the registration fee and manage payments.
