Board adopts multiple resolutions, proclaims Black History Month and appoints search committee representative

The Columbia County Board of Supervisors adopted a series of resolutions offered by Supervisor Magnus, unanimously approving the slate by voice vote, and took several routine and ceremonial actions including a proclamation and an appointment.
Supervisor Magnus presented resolutions ranging from Resolution 14 through Resolution 64 of 2025; the chair called for adoption and the board answered in the affirmative. The clerk then moved routine business items: a motion to pay the bills, accept the creditors report and file the minutes, which were approved by voice vote.
Chairman Matt Norell read a proclamation recognizing February as Black History Month. In his proclamation he said, "I, Matt Norell, chairman of the board of Columbia County, Columbia County Board of Supervisors here, I proclaim the month of February as Black History Month and the recognition of the pivotal contributions and enduring legacy of black Americans in the ongoing struggle for the just for justice and equality." The proclamation called for renewed dedication to understanding, respect and unity.
In other business the board appointed Ron Knott to serve on the search committee charged with selecting a replacement for the retiring president of Columbia County Community College (the transcript: "Columbia Creek Community College"). The chair said Ron Knott would represent the board throughout the search process; a motion to adjourn followed and the meeting concluded.
During the meeting one supervisor warned that reported federal proposals to cut Medicaid and SNAP could affect many county residents and urged the board to consider planning and mitigation steps. No formal directive or motion on federal program contingency planning was recorded.
