Board approves enrollment, routing and service contracts, Communities In Schools MOU and student trips

The Maple Heights City Schools Board of Education approved multiple contracts, a memorandum of understanding with Communities In Schools of Ohio, routing and medical services agreements, two overnight student trips and the consent calendar during new business. Several items drew brief questions from board members about training, oversight and on-site convenience for services; all items on the agenda passed by roll call.

The superintendent recommended approval of a 36-month agreement with Thomson Reuters for software services to verify district enrollment data at a cost of $754 per month, with a 5% increase in years two and three. A board member asked whether training would be provided and who would oversee correct use; the meeting record shows three district staff will be certified and an unnamed district staff member stated, “Right now, I’ll be overseeing it.” The board approved the contract by roll call.

The board also approved a memorandum of understanding with Communities In Schools of Ohio to provide a CIS site coordinator for Maple Heights City Schools from February 2025 through June 30, 2026, at a total cost not to exceed $70,880.33. The superintendent introduced the recommendation; the motion carried by roll call.

Other contracts approved included Safe Routes (transportation routing software) under a three-year quote at $9,168.60 for year one and $7,968.60 for years two and three; Medical Mobile of Ohio LLC to provide random drug testing and related services for school bus drivers (one-year term); and Medical Guardian LLC for medical alert services and equipment over 36 months at a monthly cost outlined in the agreement (monthly figure was not specified during the meeting).

Two overnight student trips were approved: retroactive approval for DECA students to attend an Ohio Marketing and Business Educators Association event in Independence, Ohio (February; already occurred) and approval for the Maple Heights Student Council to attend the annual state conference in Port Clinton and Sandusky, Ohio, in March. The superintendent presented both recommendations and each motion passed by roll call.

The superintendent also presented the consent calendar (employment items B through E) and the board approved it with the condition that employment is subject to successful background checks and final administrative review.
