DES MOINES, Iowa ' The Iowa House read a wide slate of bills on Feb. 19, moving measures covering preschool education, human trafficking prosecution units, veterans'benefits, alcohol licensing and several housing- and local-government-related items to committee for further review.
Lawmakers spent the opening part of their floor session reading bill titles and routing measures to the committees that will hold hearings and markups. Most bills received a first reading and were recorded as "not ready for commitment," meaning they remain in committee rather than moving immediately for debate or a floor vote.
