Roswell — The Roswell city committee voted unanimously Feb. 19 to approve a budget amendment recognizing a $193,000 insurance disbursement for storm damage at Lita Thompson Memorial Park.
Director Malone told the committee Hurricane Helene, which impacted the area in late September 2024, damaged several unoccupied structures near the rear of the park. He said the city’s risk manager filed an insurance claim; the city received an insurance payment for $193,000. Staff recommended the funds be deposited into the capital projects fund and used to demolish and remove the damaged structures.
Councilmember Sarah Beeson asked what the structures were. Malone described them as a main house used for maintenance storage and a detached garage; he said several large trees fell and landed on those structures. The committee did not discuss alternative uses for the funds at the meeting.
The motion to approve budget amendment BA35062000-02-24-25, in the amount of $193,000 to recognize the insurance disbursement, was made by Councilmember Jean Lee Hills and seconded by Councilmember William Northland. The vote was unanimous.
Staff said the funds will be used for demolition and removal; no additional budget transfers or program changes were adopted during the committee meeting.
