Vicky Smith Dickey, vice chair of the Brazos County Historical Commission, said the Texas Treasure Business Award honors businesses that have served their communities for at least 50 years and noted that since 2005 more than 500 businesses have received the award. She said Buddy's Appliance, established in 1960, has provided “exceptional service and building enduring customer relationships” and that the award recognizes the business’s six decades of service.
Buddy Haney, the proprietor, thanked the commission and the community for supporting the business. Henry Mayo, chairman of the County Historical Commission, and other commission members attended the presentation. The commission noted a historical ad from Feb. 18, 1972, marking an early point in the business’s independent operation and highlighted the award as a celebration of local business continuity.
