County schedules public hearing to extend South and Center Chautauqua Lake sewer district from Midway State Park to Point Chautauqua

Pierre Shagdon, chairman of the county Legislature and member of the South and Center Chautauqua Lake Sewer District board, told the committee that the county will call a public hearing on a proposal to extend public sewer from Midway State Park through Point Chautauqua.
Pierre Shagdon said the sewer board completed a preliminary engineering report and a map-and-plan report that the county sewer agency reviewed and approved unanimously. The public hearing is scheduled for the March legislative meeting; engineers will present the plan and give residents an opportunity to comment.
Shagdon said the notice of public hearing includes an anticipated user cost that was calculated using a conservative assumption of 50% state funding for the project; the board believes actual state funding could be higher but opted for conservative estimates in public materials. If the Legislature moves to create or extend the district after the public hearing, additional actions — including establishing capital accounts and issuing bond resolutions — would follow to position the project for funding applications.
The committee approved the resolution calling the hearing by voice vote. No construction or bond action was authorized at this meeting; the item advances the required public-notice and hearing step in the statutory process.
