Chautauqua County’s Human Services Committee approved a budget amendment to buy a cargo van to replace an aging meal-delivery vehicle in the North County.
Office for Aging staff told the committee the expected cost of the cargo/transport vehicle is $42,000. The county has $19,000 in a van-replacement fund that has accumulated since 2019; staff said they plan to use grant funds (described as federal 3-C funding) to cover the approximately $23,000 balance.
Committee members asked about trade-in value, mileage on the existing 2016 van and whether ordering delays could affect price; staff said the fleet manager will determine asset disposition and any recouped funds, that they did not have the mileage figure at the meeting and that vehicle pricing may rise, but the department had identified a model and worked with fleet staff.
Staff said the county currently operates two vans in the north and that the replacement would temporarily draw down the van-replacement fund; the contract includes an encumbrance fund that sets aside a portion of every delivery to rebuild replacement funds over time. The committee approved the amendment by voice vote.
