The Chautauqua County Public Safety Committee on Jan. (date not specified) authorized agreements with several towns to provide enhanced police-protection services for fiscal year 2025.
Sheriff Jim Quattrone said the county has provided enhanced police protection to the Town of Ripley for more than 30 years and to the Town of Charlotte for four to five years. Under the agreements, Ripley’s coverage is budgeted at up to $35,000 and Charlotte’s at $4,000. Quattrone noted the sheriff’s office currently faces manpower shortages and that Ripley’s town supervisor is aware the county may not always be able to provide the same level of patrol hours historically expected.
Committee members asked about billing and hours. The sheriff’s office confirmed towns are billed for the actual hours provided and that bills are issued quarterly. Staff said if coverage approaches the dollar cap, the county will notify the town and reduce hours as needed. The committee voted to approve the agreements.
