A public-relations contractor who meets regularly with county staff presented a program of communications upgrades to Boone County commissioners on Feb. 3, urging clearer internal procedures for media releases, an improved streaming approach for public meetings, and an eventual audio-visual modernization of the commissioners’ chambers.
The presenter said, "I work for you, but I work for the county," and described his goal to facilitate public information and to produce video content, b-roll and longer-form explanations about county operations. He asked the commissioners to clarify who needs to approve media releases and mentioned the email address media@boone.co.in.us as the public contact the county will use.
He said streaming could be improved with a no-cost procedural change to reduce direct dial-ins during meetings, and recommended developing a social-media policy before broadening the county’s presence on platforms. He also proposed an AV review committee to scope audio and video upgrades, noting upgrades could range in price and that a full buildout might be a substantial investment (he noted figures in the range of six figures as a planning-level estimate).
The presenter said he is an outside contractor (not a county employee) and that communications work will be coordinated with the county’s IT staff. Commissioners expressed support and asked for follow-up conversations to finalize procedures and review specific proposals.
