Debbie Dennis, newly appointed CEPIWI (Center for Excellence—Prevention, Intervention, Wellness and Integration) coordinator, briefed the Public Safety Committee on early priorities and several pending resolutions related to DWI prevention.
Dennis said she has met with local stakeholders, including the district attorney’s office, sheriff’s department and Auburn Police Department, and is preparing several resolutions for the committee in March. She reported the county was awarded $18,375 in high‑visibility engagement funding for targeted patrols on dates specified by New York State; the committee was told a resolution will be filed in March to accept the funds. Dennis also said the county’s DWI 2025 plan—prepared by a predecessor and submitted in September—has been preapproved and will require a certification page and a committee resolution before it becomes official.
Dennis said she will also bring the routine annual after‑prom funding resolution used to support school-district after‑prom events aimed at reducing alcohol‑related incidents.
Legislators welcomed Dennis to the role; she said she will return with the proposed resolutions and said meetings with stakeholders will continue.
