Metro Health Director Sammie Areola outlines priorities, warns of federal grant uncertainty

At the Feb. 18 meeting of the Metro Nashville Public Health & Safety Committee, Dr. Sammie Areola, Metro Public Health’s new director, introduced himself and briefed the committee on department priorities and federal funding concerns.
Areola, who said he is in his third week back with the department, reviewed his background and set out core areas of focus. “What we want to do is very easy, which is to create conditions in every part of our county where everyone who walks, lives, plays, visits Nashville has the opportunity to be as healthy as they possibly can,” he said.
