JP3 re-recognizes the county search-and-rescue team (formerly Highland Search and Rescue) under the county umbrella. Emergency services staff said the team will be integrated into the county's special operations budget line, which funds multiple volunteer teams and pays liability insurance and replacement safety equipment as needed. Staff said the assets being transferred from the team total about $2,000 in equipment, and that approximately five volunteers will be newly covered by county liability insurance because they are not affiliated with a fire or EMS agency.
The committee also approved probation department authorizations to fill Probation Officer 1 and Probation Officer 2 positions (JP4, JP5) to replace a recent resignation and an upcoming retirement. JP6 authorized filling two deputy sheriff vacancies; JP7 and JP8 covered other previously budgeted jail and administrative positions. The sheriff reported the jail census had recently fallen to about 109 inmates, down from higher counts in prior years.
