Montgomery to launch web-based 'metaverse' march for 1965 Selma-to-Montgomery anniversary

The mayor said the application will require only internet access and a web browser and will not require special equipment. He described the initiative as part of the city's economic-development, tourism and education efforts and said it is tied to the Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods grant. "The city, the county, the state, and other entities will be assisting us in this endeavor," the mayor said, calling the project a way to welcome thousands of visitors during the anniversary events.
The mayor framed the project as both an educational commemoration and a tourism strategy, and said marketing and outreach will follow as the city builds the experience. He did not provide a vendor name, a project budget, or a launch schedule beyond "available in March 2025." No formal vote or contract award was recorded in the meeting.
