City staff presented three separate temporary use or facility agreements for large public events and asked the council to authorize the mayor to execute the agreements.
Staff said Hoover Public Safety Night (formerly National Night Out) is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18 and that the event will use the Belk parking lot under an agreement with Brookfield Properties. City staff identified the item as a resolution for Hoover Mall Limited LLC allowing use of the lot.
City staff also described a temporary property use agreement with iHeartMedia for one of the company’s large events. iHeartMedia plans to set up in the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium parking lot on Friday, May 2 for setup and hold the event on Saturday, May 3; staff said the event has been asked to rebrand as the Magic City WineFest and that iHeartMedia chose to move the event from Birmingham.
Separately, staff presented a facility use agreement for the World Police and Fire Games, scheduled June 26 through July 6. The city would host competitions at the Hoover Met Complex for basketball, firefighter challenge, police motorcycle rodeo, soccer, tennis and “ultimate fighter,” and use Veterans Park for K-9 demonstrations, a biathlon and explosives-detection events.
Council members asked routine clarifying questions about the events and their facilities. The transcript does not record final vote tallies for these agenda items.
