Commissioner Don Horn said the department’s housing unit has been busy placing people during extremely cold nights and that staff made a temporary exception to the usual check‑out rules during sub‑10‑degree weather; under normal Code Blue rules, guests check out the next day to avoid becoming motel residents.
The board authorized releasing $42,818 in youth sports allocations via request for proposal; the funds were previously distributed in 2024 to about 12 organizations and will be divided by the youth board as in prior years. Horn said the county acts as a pass‑through and that 100% of the allocation is distributed to local organizations.
To ensure timely assessments, the department secured a backup arrangement with Venture Forth at a rate of $300 per assessment for cases that require immediate evaluation; the department said this provides a reliable backup while recruitment for in‑house clinical staff continues.
The board authorized filling several positions: an account clerk typist (the department intends to rehire a former employee to aid training), and a senior support investigator in child support (to replace a retirement); each motion passed by voice vote. Horn also thanked LaGrasse Salon for donating roughly 50 youth coats, hats and mittens that the department distributed to children in need.
Votes: The RFP authorization for youth sports allocations, the Venture Forth agreement, and all requested hires were approved by unanimous voice vote.
