DOT Director Rob Price presented the low bid and outlined project elements: the final stretch of 3 Oaks Parkway to Daniels Parkway; improvements at the Daniels Parkway / Fiddlesticks Boulevard intersection; an eight‑lane widening of Daniels Parkway along a defined segment; pedestrian and bicycle facilities; street lighting and utility work; and resurfacing to make materials consistent along the corridor. Price said the award authorizes construction and that the project also includes utility work to coordinate with FDOT's diverging diamond project at Daniels and I‑75.
Commissioners asked about sequencing and whether county work would avoid wasted overlays when FDOT's work begins. Price said the county is coordinating closely with FDOT to phase work so improvements are compatible and to avoid rework. Commissioners noted the project will improve North‑South connectivity and discussed opportunities for partial early openings but said public travel access for the full extension will take several years as phases are completed.
The board approved the contract award and recorded unanimous approval in the meeting record.
