County opts for conventional design‑bid‑build delivery for Cape Coral Bridge project

Rob Price of DOT presented the recommendation and told the board that FDOT District 1 and the Florida Transportation Builders Association recommended the conventional approach "due to the size and the scope of the project." Price asked the board to allow DOT to complete the design to 100% and then bid the construction. The board discussed the staff‑provided risk analysis, thanked DOT for additional information provided since December, and then approved the recommendation without objection.
Price said the original design contract was awarded to Kissinger Campo and Associates and that the decision point was triggered as the project approached 60% design. Commissioners emphasized the value of the more detailed risk comparison provided since the last discussion and moved to advance the project to 100% plans and advertise for construction bids.
DOT staff said they were available for further questions and the board recorded unanimous approval for the delivery‑method decision.
