Haslet City Council on Feb. 2025 heard administrative updates on park infrastructure and roadway projects and asked staff to return with more detailed plans on the Park Board’s proposed Memorial Garden and TxDOT’s concept for a bridge at FM 156 in Avondale-Haslet.
Public works reported mini-split HVAC systems have been installed at restroom facilities in Nance Field, Community Park and Grama Park primarily to prevent frozen pipes; the installations were said to be about 90% complete and will allow the facilities to remain open year-round. Council also received an update that the Keller Haslet Parkway extension is progressing and that an April ribbon cutting for the new roadway is tentatively planned.
Why it matters: the park HVAC work and road opening affect daily park use and local traffic flow. The Memorial Garden project — currently without a city-developed design — and any future TxDOT bridge construction would require clearer design materials and administrative review before council approval.
Memorial Garden and Park Board
Councilmembers said the Park Board held a special meeting and asked that the memorial garden matter be placed on a future council agenda so the council could review and make any necessary decisions. City staff said the Park Board had not provided a formal design; public works has reviewed the materials the board provided and identified missing construction definitions that must be addressed before work can proceed. The mayor asked staff for a target plan and next steps within a week; staff agreed to provide that update.
TxDOT bridge concept at FM 156
A councilmember requested consideration of TxDOT’s proposed bridge at FM 156. City staff said TxDOT has not submitted a formal plan for council approval and that only a concept exists; staff and council agreed the item will be placed on the March 3 agenda as a discussion item so the council can review concepts and concerns.
Park facilities and ribbon cutting
Public works reported HVAC installations at Nance Field and Grama Park are nearly finished and will reduce the risk of frozen pipes. City staff indicated base work for the Keller Haslet Parkway extension is underway and that officials will announce the ribbon-cutting date for April once timing is firmed up.
Next steps
Staff will: provide a target plan and next steps for the Memorial Garden within about a week; present a discussion item on TxDOT’s FM 156 concept at the March 3 council meeting; and continue coordinating the Keller Haslet Parkway ribbon cutting.
