Edwards told the council that “at least a half a dozen people” he knows were ‘‘wrongfully terminated’’ and said city and county residents will feel the impact in Klamath County, which he said is already among the highest-unemployment counties in Oregon. He asked the council and mayor to draft letters to the state’s U.S. senators and Representative Bence to protest the firings.
Edwards criticized actions by Elon Musk in his remarks, saying the firings were driven by Musk’s decisions and that Musk “has no authority to be doing this,” and urged local elected officials to press federal legislators for a response.
His remarks came during the council’s public-comment period; no council action on the request was recorded on the meeting agenda. The council did not vote or direct staff on the request during the meeting.
