Sen. Kubey introduced leaders of Valley of the Sun United Way who were in the Senate gallery for a day at the Capitol and to present the nonprofit’s 2026 public policy agenda, which the senator described as addressing education, health, housing and homelessness, and workforce development.
Sen. Kubey said the organization’s president and CEO, Carla Vargas Hassa, and chief community development officer, Emma Garcia, were present with board members and leaders of Women United to “provide an update on their mighty change to 2026 public policy agenda,” and noted the group has served Arizona for nearly a century.
Separately, Sen. Messner urged colleagues to attend Arizona Impact for Good’s legislative day the following morning and provided sector statistics: “we have 29,000 nonprofit organizations in this state. And the nonprofit sector generated more than 214,000 jobs and made up 8% of the state's workforce in 2022,” he said on the floor.
The floor transcript records the introductions and the invitation to the advocacy event; no presentation or formal testimony from Valley of the Sun United Way is included in the session record.
