Council expands animal-abuse database inclusion period to indefinite

The Volusia County Council voted 7-0 on Tuesday to extend the inclusion period for the county's animal-abuse database from 10 years to indefinite.
Interim Public Protection Director Random Matusiak told the council the database is a publicly accessible list compiled from clerk records that identifies people convicted of misdemeanor or felony animal-related offenses. The database currently includes mugshots, name, date of birth, case number and charge information; it is updated nightly from clerk records.
