Committee backs reauthorization of Consumer Electronics Recycling Act (SB2414/HB3098)

Claire Ryan, King County recycling coordinator, asked the Legislative Committee Feb. 19 to support Senate Bill 2414 and its House companion, House Bill 3098, which would reauthorize the Consumer Electronics Recycling Act with minor changes.
Ryan said the original law, enacted with a 10‑year horizon in 2016, created an extended-producer-responsibility framework that funded electronics recycling programs; the reauthorization would continue manufacturer-funded support for county recycling centers and county electronics collection events.
"The amendments to the bill don't really affect what we'll be doing here in the county at all," Ryan told the committee, noting the program has worked since the original law took effect. Committee members indicated no opposition and supported filing witness slips and a supportive position through the county’s energy and environment committee.
The committee approved support by consensus and gave staff permission to assist with witness slips advancing SB2414/HB3098 through committee consideration.
