Court modifies tracking for supervised father, allows hospital visit and substitutes parenting classes for community service

The 187th District Court adjusted supervision conditions for Kevin Jones to permit childcare and schooling obligations and substituted parenting instruction for community service in exchange for his compliance.
Jones asked the court to modify monitored times because his newborn was being discharged and he needed to be at the hospital. The judge asked the State and probation about any objection and, after confirming the mother of the child was not consistently present and that the defendant's mother would care for the child when needed, the court approved a "tracking only" modification. "So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do tracking only...Don't go wild. Right? Just do your school, taking care of your child, looking for employment," Judge Boyd said.
The court ordered that Jones complete CPR and parenting classes; probation agreed those classes would satisfy the defendant's community-service requirement once completed. The defendant was required to reside with his mother as a condition; probation would perform field visits as part of monitoring. The court scheduled a recall for April 7 at about 2 p.m. to review compliance and progress toward employment.
