Staff cautioned that permanent installations can cost substantially more than small displays; one staff estimate cited installation budgets “between $50,000 and $100,000” for more substantial work, while small outreach materials (collapsible promotional signs) were discussed in the range of about $140–$277 each.
Commissioners discussed staging the effort as an information‑gathering work item that would return recommendations and cost estimates before any capital funding was requested. Staff noted the library will undergo a major renovation and that early study and community input would help identify appropriate locations and funding sources for art within the renovation scope.
The adopted work plan also explicitly includes: recruiting and promoting commissioner service, participating in professional development and conferences, advising on potential capital improvements for the library’s facility and representing the commission at library programs and community events (story times, staff appreciation, outreach booths). The motion to adopt the work plan passed 3–0.
Next steps: staff will incorporate the study item and outreach actions into future agendas and prepare any required budget input or cost estimates for council consideration.
