Court issues bond forfeiture and remands defendant after failure to appear

Jose Ricardo Maciel failed to appear for a scheduled hearing in the 187th District Court and the court issued a bond forfeiture and remanded him without bond.
Deputy court staff announced that the defendant and defense counsel were not present for the scheduled 9 a.m. hearing. The court confirmed the cause had a commercial bond and that a reset form signed by the defendant and counsel existed for a February reset. Because the defendant did not appear, the court stated it would issue a bond forfeiture and remand the defendant without bond, but said it would reconsider if the defendant subsequently appears.
The court instructed court staff to contact the bondsman to check objections to reinstating the bond. When the matter was reviewed the court announced issuance of a bond forfeiture and remand in the matter; the clerk will process the forfeiture paperwork and counsel may request reconsideration if the defendant appears and the bondsman does not object.
