Public commenters also raised housing-related suggestions: a commenter noted that San Jose mailed an ADU flyer to every household and suggested Gilroy consider a similar outreach campaign to help older homeowners access ADU grants and pre-fabricated options. Another commenter thanked the council for creating a housing coordinator and building out a housing and community services division.
City administrators told the council the housing element and other programs are part of the work plan staff will track as the strategic-planning and budget processes proceed. Staff said they will return with specific budget and implementation recommendations tied to council direction.
No formal actions were taken; council members directed staff to continue the strategic-planning process and to bring back detailed budget and program proposals for adoption during the budget cycle.
