Council welcomes Gilbert Legaspi as new planning commissioner

The Downey City Council formally welcomed Gilbert Legaspi as the newest member of the city’s Planning Commission during Wednesday’s meeting.
Former Mayor Mario Trujillo called Legaspi forward and said the Planning Commission “sets the tone and speaks to the soul” of the city. Trujillo highlighted Legaspi’s background in law enforcement and real estate and noted that planning commissioners serve as unpaid volunteers. He presented Legaspi with a certificate and the commission lapel pin.
“I am humbled to be here. We’ve been here for 26 years, my family and I,” Legaspi said, adding that he looks forward to serving and to bringing volunteer service to the commission.
Trujillo emphasized the commission’s role balancing neighborhood character and economic interests and thanked Legaspi for stepping forward. The council did not discuss any specific permits or projects in the course of the welcome.
