County supervisors extend six-month eviction protections and direct $10 million in rent relief for fire-impacted renters and small businesses

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted yesterday to extend eviction protections for six months and direct $10,000,000 to a countywide rent-relief program for workers and small business owners impacted by the recent fires, Supervisor Lindsey Horvath said at a county recovery press conference.

"This motion includes $10,000,000 directed towards rent relief countywide," Horvath said, adding that the six-month eviction protection aims to give affected residents and small businesses breathing room while they recover. Horvath described rent relief as "critical at a time when people are worrying how they're going to pay their rent when they lost their job, when they lost their place of employment to these fires." She said the protection targets workers and small business owners impacted by the fires.

Horvath also described county recovery resources available to residents: a county resident relief fund with an interest form at recovery.LAcounty.gov and a one-stop permitting center in Altadena to assist with rebuilding permits. She noted that Disaster Recovery Center operating hours changed to Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., effective Feb. 24, and that the centers will be closed on Sundays.
