North College Hill City Council on Monday nominated and approved two residents as council-appointed members of the Charter Review Commission and Mayor Nichols announced two mayoral appointees.
Councilmember Miss Underwood moved to nominate Rayshawn Hicks and Elijah Kelsey as the council’s two nominees; Miss Chichester seconded the motion. The council approved the nominations on a 6-1 vote. During discussion Miss Underwood described Hicks as a longtime resident and a deputy sheriff with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and said Kelsey is a newer resident with a master’s degree in data analytics and a University of Cincinnati degree. Councilmember Miss Orban noted another resident, Renee Styles, had asked to be considered but the motion on the floor named Hicks and Kelsey.
Mayor Nichols named Kim Newman and Chavon Hall as her two appointees and confirmed spelling for the minutes; the mayor’s appointments do not require a council vote. With council and mayor appointees included, the commission will include the mayor plus the named citizens and the mayor said the group’s first meeting is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. Councilmembers encouraged members of the public to attend and participate; Miss Underwood noted the meetings will be public and recorded.
The Charter Review Commission will examine the city charter and recommend any proposed amendments for council consideration. The council did not provide details about the commission’s agenda beyond scheduling and membership at the meeting; the commission’s public materials and meeting notices will be published by the city.
