The Jeffersontown City Council approved a series of routine warrants and resolutions and passed the second reading of an ordinance closing a portion of the unimproved right-of-way of Longview Road at a meeting of the council.
Council members approved general fund warrant number 1623 and road fund warrant number 1009 by voice vote. The council also adopted resolution number 811 (Series 2025) approving a bursary-related item, and approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter an agreement for on-call construction engineering support at Veterans Park. The council gave first reading to resolution 812 (Series 2025), which would permit the mayor to reallocate a mayoral project budget line item to the Clerk Association to help defray costs for the 2025 spring conference at the Louisville Marriott East Hotel in Jeffersontown, and considered a resolution authorizing a contract with Pyro Shows Inc. for the city’s fireworks display.
Why it matters: the engineering agreement for Veterans Park and the Pyro Shows contract move forward venue and event planning for the city; the Longview Road ordinance will alter public right-of-way within the Southern Breeze subdivision and permit the creation of an additional buildable lot while maintaining the bike-and-pedestrian connection through the area.
On the fireworks contract, staff and council members discussed the contract amount recorded in meeting materials. Debbie (staff member) and other council members noted a figure in the materials near $60,800; participants also said a portion of the payment may have been paid as a deposit in 2024 and that the contract text contains a possible typographical error. The council moved and carried the resolution authorizing the mayor to execute the contract with Pyro Shows Inc.
The council completed the second reading of ordinance 14 67 (Series 2025) to close a small area of unimproved right of way on Longview Road. "It really does not affect anybody outside of the subdivision," said Steve Russi (staff member), who reiterated a summary given at the prior meeting, and added that the closure will allow creation of one additional buildable lot within the Southern Breeze subdivision while keeping the established bike-and-ped path that runs from Longview down Southern Breeze to Wadderson Trail. The motion for second reading carried unanimously.
Committee and staff reports: Pam Hickey, Council member and chair of the amphitheater ad hoc committee, said work on the Veterans Park amphitheater is "95% done," with weather slowing some exterior work. The finance committee reported it discussed insurance premium issues at a meeting before the council session but made no decision. Planning and zoning reported an ad hoc review of Blue Mine Health insurance and said staff will run cost calculations to determine potential city benefit and return with a report in about a month.
The meeting closed with routine adjournment. Several agenda items received first-reading approval only and will return in a future meeting for final action where applicable.
