Nevada Assembly adopts resolution memorializing lobbyist Nina Laxalt

The Nevada Assembly adopted Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 1 on Feb. 18, 2025, memorializing Nina Laxalt, a longtime Nevada lobbyist and advocate, the chamber’s record shows.

Assemblymember Mosca moved for adoption of the resolution; the measure passed by voice vote after members answered “aye.” The resolution memorializes Laxalt’s career, citing her work on agricultural, ranching and animal welfare issues, her mentorship of younger professionals, and her role in planning Nevada’s sesquicentennial celebration.

The resolution’s text — read on the floor earlier in the day — notes Laxalt’s induction into the Nevada legislature’s James A. Joyce Lobbyist Hall of Fame in 2017 and her decades of service in legislative affairs. It also expresses condolences to her family.

Lawmakers offered personal remembrances after the resolution’s adoption. Assemblymember Jennifer Anderson said, “Nina Laxalt was a friend of mine. And although we did not always agree with each other, we were able to disagree in a way that showed that we had a shared love of Nevada.” Anderson described Laxalt as someone who “took interns and she took other females that were not always as welcome in these halls… She took them under her wing and she would show us the ropes.”

Assemblymember Monroe Moreno said Laxalt had “a willingness to work with anyone for the betterment of Nevada” and described Laxalt’s mentorship of newer legislators and staff. Members asked Laxalt’s family to stand and be recognized in the gallery; the assembly’s journal will include members’ remarks, the presiding officer said.

The measure had been formally transmitted to the assembly in a Senate communication earlier in the day and, after the motion to adopt, the floor voice vote carried. The assembly adjourned later in the day “in memory of Nina Laxalt.”

The resolution and floor remarks make no policy changes; they are an official expression of condolences and recognition of Laxalt’s public career.
