School board pauses committee recommendation to name rooms; board seeks uniform process

Garcia said the board’s position is that the original naming process focused on selecting a school name, and that a separate or expanded naming process could invite additional nominations. The school board therefore asked that any naming of rooms or other building components proceed through a similar public process so that names beyond the school name receive equal consideration. Garcia said families who previously submitted names for the school could re‑submit during any future room‑naming process.
“No action will be taken at this time; the board requested that a similar open process be used for naming other parts of the building,” Garcia said. The committee agreed to hold the recommendation on pause and to coordinate with the board if or when the board opens a broader naming process.
Committee members did not raise objections in the meeting to the board’s request and the matter was tabled for future consideration.
