Executive committee approves several tag appointments, including industry representatives

The Building Code Council executive committee approved several technical advisory group (TEG) appointments and alternates for Group 1 and Group 2 tags.

Staff presented applications and recommendations; the committee approved the slate in a single motion. Appointments approved on voice vote included Patrick Hanks as the home builders alternate on the International Fire Code (IFC) tag; Justin Corvalho (fire services representative, alternate) and Leah Sumner (general public/subject-matter expert, alternate) on the International Residential Code tag; John Hall (primary) and Joe Mayo (alternate) for the single-exit multiplex housing tag (the committee swapped the primary/alternate order proposed online so John Hall is primary); and other appointments including Chris Vaccaro (alternate building official seat) and Shane Nillis (manufacturer/supplier primary) as shown on the staff list.

During discussion, members noted some applicants hold seats on multiple tags and asked applicants to confirm they were not registered lobbyists; Patrick Hanks said he is not a registered lobbyist and participates to provide technical input on behalf of the building industry. BFRW chair Roger Haringa and others recommended John Hall as primary for the single-exit multiplex seat because of his multifamily experience; Joe Mayo confirmed he was comfortable as alternate.

The committee moved and seconded a single motion to approve all recommended appointments; the motion passed on a voice vote with no recorded roll call. Staff will publish updated tag rosters and continue recruiting for open seats, including a home builders representative vacancy on the mechanical/ventilation/plumbing/energy tag.
