Council approves application for Bainbridge/Root roundabout funding, authorizes local match

North Ridgeville City Council on Feb. 18 adopted Resolution 2025-33 to authorize the director of planning and development to apply for funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) for a proposed roundabout at Bainbridge Road and Root Road.
The resolution also authorizes the city to provide a local match, and authorizes the mayor to accept the funding and execute a contract with the state if the grant is awarded.
Council discussed the problem at the intersection, with the mayor describing limited sight lines and a history of accidents. "It does make it difficult for people to see traffic coming, when you're turning left onto Bainbridge coming from the south," the mayor said, adding that ODOT has indicated a strong willingness to fund the project. A council member asked whether the city would need to purchase homes for the roundabout; the mayor replied, "There's enough property there that we will not need to buy any houses, but we will need to acquire some property."
Council dispensed with the second and third readings for the resolution and then adopted it by roll call vote. The mayor said no emergency clause was necessary for this measure.
With the resolution adopted, the planning department is authorized to apply for HSIP funding and, if awarded, the mayor may accept the grant and enter into required contracts with the state of Ohio.
