North Ridgeville City Council voted Feb. 18 to accept an $81,229 grant from the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) Energized Community program and to apply that funding to the Chestnut and State Route 83 roundabout project.
Council dispensed with the remaining readings and accepted Ordinance 2025-32. The mayor later moved to add an emergency clause so the city can accept the grant and proceed with project steps; that emergency clause was adopted by voice vote and council then adopted the ordinance with the emergency clause in place.
During questions, the finance director confirmed the grant amount and its intended use: "The grant amount is for $81,229 and the funding will be used towards the Chestnut And 83 Roundabout," the finance director said. Council members said accepting the money will allow the city to move forward on the roundabout project.
Council voted on the ordinance with the emergency clause in place; the clerk recorded affirmative roll-call votes and the ordinance was adopted that evening.
The mayor explained the acceptance is necessary before the city can receive the grant funds and proceed with related construction steps.
