Ballard County Fiscal Court on Feb. 18 approved an application for a Kentucky recycling grant to buy equipment for the county recycling operation.
Public works/recycling staff described a $91,000 request for a new forklift, a new baler and two open-top containers. The grant is a matching program; staff said the county's match at the maximum award would be $22,750. The applicant explained that award amounts are discretionary and that the state could award all three items, some of them, or fewer, in which case the required county match would be adjusted accordingly.
The court approved the application by voice vote; the county judge declared the motion carried after no opposition was voiced. Staff said the match funds would be used in part to extend concrete at the unloading area and that revenue from recent commodity sales (cardboard, paper) would help cover program costs.
Staff committed to report back with official award notification and to coordinate any required local-match funding adjustments with the fiscal court.
