Commission previews Island Fest lineup, job fair timing and spring event calendar

Chair Chad Novak and recreation staff outlined the major items on the calendar: the annual Island Fest is scheduled for the weekend after Memorial Day (May 30–31 and June 1) and will include a pancake breakfast, car and motorcycle shows, soccer tournaments, exhibitors, vendors and music. Staff asked commissioners to help recruit volunteers and sponsors; sponsorship and exhibitor packets are available on IslandIslandFest.com, staff said.
Staff announced the annual Easter egg hunt will be Saturday, April 12 at Centennial Farm with age‑grouped hunts, photo opportunities with the Easter bunny, refreshments and preregistration required at RoseIlRecreation.org. A Father‑Son Field Day is planned for Saturday, May 17 at Centennial Farm; staff said they expect elementary and middle school age groups and will award prizes for top finishers. A Mother‑Daughter Tea is scheduled for April 26 at House of Tea; the Daddy‑Daughter dance was described as sold out.
Staff also described plans for a job fair aimed at seasonal hires (lifeguards and camp staff). The department said it is working with the high school to host the fair in March (earlier than last year) and expects to coordinate with local businesses including the airport and Tipsy Fish.
Kiwanis reported its flag subscription program will place flags around the island from Armed Forces Day through Veterans Day and said the club earmarked funds to assist the township toward a playscape. Staff also said new resident welcome baskets are being delivered and that several after‑school classes and new high school clubs (clay target, lacrosse) are launching this semester.
No votes were taken on these items; staff asked commissioners to help promote events and volunteer for Island Fest and other programs.
