Escanaba City Council on Feb. 6 approved Resolution 25-02 establishing a downtown social district managed in coordination with the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority (DDA). The district will allow licensed establishments that obtain a state social-district permit to sell alcoholic beverages in designated single-use cups for consumption within mapped commons areas between Lincoln Road and the marina.
The social district ordinance establishes a commons area (sidewalks and selected public space) and allows nonprofits to request temporary commons areas and special hours for events. Under the plan presented, participating businesses would sell drinks in one-time-use cups no larger than 16 ounces that must display the Escanaba Downtown Social District logo and the vendor’s name or logo.
