The Youngsville City Council on Feb. 13 approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Boulay to execute a grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration under the fiscal-year 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program for Young Street intersection safety improvements.
City staff said the engineer’s current estimate for the project is $3.7 million, which would require a $700,000 local match. The council approved a 25% recipient share for Youngsville; the match will be allocated among the participating cities (Youngsville’s share is 25%, with the remainder apportioned to partners). City staff said a landowner at the intersection has agreed to donate the anticipated right-of-way; that donation credit will count toward the local match and be allocated 75% to Youngsville and 25% to Broussard per the current agreement draft.
The council moved, seconded and approved the resolution unanimously among members present. The item allows the mayor to complete grant paperwork and formalize the city’s responsibilities under the SS4A award.
Council members did not amend the engineer’s estimate in the meeting; staff said the project will advance through design and right-of-way work in coordination with partner jurisdictions and the grant administrator.
