Citrus Heights Women’s Club reports results of grant‑funded Friendship Bag project

June Marie Wilby, immediate past president of the Citrus Heights Women’s Club, updated the City Council on a city community projects grant that funded the club’s Friendship Bag project.
Wilby said the project provided durable cloth bags filled with small, lightweight items — cups, stress balls, hand warmers, books and small treats — to residents at assisted‑living facilities and to Meals on Wheels participants. She identified partner locations including OARS on Greenback (about 50 residents) and a facility on Stock Ranch (described in the presentation as having about 100 residents). The project also connected with Meals on Wheels recipients at Crossroads and involved volunteers from the club, facility staff and retail donors.
Wilby said some of the project materials were reused from a prior oncology bag program (2012–2019) and that the club used discounted purchasing channels and in‑kind donations to stretch the grant dollars. She thanked the council for the opportunity and said the club plans to continue similar distribution work and to explore future grant opportunities.
Councilmembers responded positively in the meeting, thanking the club for the work and noting the visible impact in photos included with the presentation. The item was presented as a grant update; no council action was requested.
